Visioning workshop in Finland explores landscape features and nature-based water management in Raasepori
On 1 April 2026, a visioning workshop took place in Raasepori, Finland, bringing together 15 stakeholders from the Raaseporinjoki River catchment and the City of Raasepori, alongside 4 LAFERIA members. The event was organised by Syke with the involvement of the University of Helsinki. Among the attendees were farmers, other land-users, private and public landowners, private corporations, retail representatives, and members of the administration, including agricultural chambers.
The primary objectives of the workshop were to reflect on the core characteristics of landscape features (LF) within the Finnish case study area and to link the visioning exercise to the specific knowledge needs of the stakeholders from the LAFERIA project. Additionally, the organisers aimed to share recent monitoring results and inform landowners about upcoming project activities in the Finnish case study area for the remainder of 2026.
During the session, stakeholders engaged in activities designed to deepen their understanding of LF. Following that, the project team presented the recent monitoring results regarding the functioning and effects of nature-based water management measures, such as the two-stage channel of the Raseborg River.
This workshop successfully gathered stakeholder views on LF and the overarching vision for the area. It also allowed the team to share the latest data on water levels, floods, and water quality impacts with the landowners, who showed great interest in the results and provided suggestions for future monitoring. Ultimately, the outcomes of the workshop will support the development of strategies and policies for upscaling these LF at both national and European Union levels.
