The LIFE Charcos project focused on the conservation of Mediterranean temporary ponds on the southwest coast of Portugal. It demonstrated good management practices for their restoration, produced a best-practice manual, and established a land stewardship network of "Guardians" to ensure the long-term monitoring and preservation of these unique habitats.
